About our kindy
Our story, our community.
Chelmer Station Community Kindergarten Inc has belonged to local families since 1991 — a registered charity where parents, teachers and children build something special together.
Our mission
Why we exist
We operate a community kindergarten program that brings families together and provides quality early education to our 3–5 year olds.
We believe the years before school are not a rehearsal for "real" learning — they are the foundation of it. Our job is to protect childhood, champion play, and make sure every child walks into Prep feeling capable, confident and known.
Our promises
- Every child known by name, story and strength
- Play-based learning led by qualified teachers
- A welcoming place for every family and every child
- Every dollar reinvested into the children — always
The manifesto
Four things that make us, us
Our story
Chelmer Station Community Kindergarten was founded by local families who wanted something different for their children — a kindy that felt like an extension of the neighbourhood itself. Registered as a charity on 31 December 1991, our little kindy beside the train line has now welcomed more than a thousand children through its gate.
Generations of families have painted our fences, built our gardens and cheered at our end-of-year concerts. Some of today's parents once played in our sandpit themselves — and we think that says everything.
Community-owned & not-for-profit
We are an incorporated association run by a volunteer management committee of current parents, elected at our Annual General Meeting. There are no owners and no profits — any surplus goes straight back into resources, maintenance and our program.
- Registered charity with the ACNC since 31 December 1991
- ABN 16 895 642 936
- Governed by a parent-elected committee with annual reporting
- Supported by Queensland Government kindergarten funding
Our philosophy
Children are capable, curious and full of ideas. Our teachers don't stand at the front of a room — they kneel beside a sandcastle, ask "what if?", and turn a puddle into a science lesson. Play is the work of childhood, and we take that work seriously.
We follow the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline, building identity, connectedness, wellbeing, active learning and communication — through experiences children actually care about.
Our people
Our program is led by a university-qualified early childhood teacher, supported by experienced educators who hold current Blue Cards and first aid qualifications. Behind them stands our parent committee — the volunteers who keep the lights on, the gardens growing and the community connected.
Small groups mean every educator knows every child: their friends, their fears, and exactly how they like their sandwich cut.
